It seems an age since I last added something here. Indeed, the last post on this blog was way back in October 2010! Since my trip to Brussels to visit FoAM, things have been pretty hectic…

Anyway, reactivating. What’s that all about? Well, put simply, I’m going to try and post more regularly on here. While the writing has been on pause – at least on here – the blog has still been fairly lively. One of the earlier posts seems to have been picked up by a media class and transformed through a proliferation of their blogs; another post has also been taken up in a discussion elsewhere which I stumbled across. To make sharing more straightforward, I’ve added the ‘sharethis‘ plugin. And on this topic, I wanted to also thank those who have linked my blog to their website – much appreciated. I plan to update my rather small list of links in the coming weeks.

Earlier on in the month, I received a reminder email asking me to renew my hosting arrangement for this website. It was only then that I realised that it had been a year since I set up and started this blog! I have found it really quite useful for a number of reasons. Firstly, it serves as a record of my research and how the process is developing. It is not quite my research diary but as a friend put it, a form of public note-taking. Secondly, it is a space for me to engage with different kinds of topics as well as experiment styles of writing. Thirdly, it has allowed for a sharing of my work with both those who may search for me online and/or stumble on my site after searching for a certain collection of key words. Unfortunately, this sharing has been rather hampered by on-going problems connecting to other sites through the use of trackbacks and pingbacks (apologies for the recent ‘test’ posts). I have asked for help from both those on the wordpress fora and my internet host but have had no luck as yet.

There are a set of posts which are in draft form at the moment but that I shall try to finish off during the course of this week. Here’s hoping! As ever, please feel free to leave comments or get in touch with me directly,

WordPress in action

I’ve been busy working away on the blog the last week or so, not only writing posts but also changing the organisation and design.

1. Updates: the categories have been tidied up and now generally correspond to either the location from which the post was written or relates to;  footnotes have been added¹ and text has been reformatted (in terms of alignment and the way hyperlinks operate).

2. Plans: by the time you read this there should be some reviews up on the site and plan to use the blog as a platform for more writing in the future (alongside updates from ‘the field’). I haven’t forgotten about video: watch this space. I’ve also downloaded the WordPress app (hence the picture above) and plan to use it for shorter posts.

3. Comments: so far I have had one comment – please, please feel free to comment. It would be great to know if people are reading anything on here and what they think.

Speed and slowness

I’ve been meaning to write for the last few weeks but haven’t found the time to pen anything substantial or upload some of the things I’ve been working on during this academic year. Hopefully, over the next month or so I’ll share the draft posts I’ve been working on. I have a few books reviews, some ethico-asethetic action(s) and responses to conferences I’ve attended that I would like to share.

I’m also considering getting some videos up on the blog and so am looking into the various options. Tempted by videopress! In the meantime, I wanted to flag a really great journal that I stumbled across recently called ‘Actual Virtual‘ – check it out.

The aim of AV is twofold. To provide current Deleuzian academic research papers presented as they were meant to be seen… rather than publishing the written word, each paper is filmed by the TMF production company and presented here as streamed movies. To provide a platform for Deleuzian inspired artworks across the international Deleuzian community.
